The Athens State Orchestra Collaborates with SEPTICFLESH
The Greek metal band with an international career for the second time!

With participation from the Piraeus Vocal Ensemble LIBRO CORO
Conducted by Koen Schoots

The audience demanded it insistently!

After the sold-out of their first concert this year in just 40 hours, many fans were left without the coveted ticket for the unique experience of SEPTICFLESH performing under the Acropolis, in a breathtaking meeting with the symphonic grandeur of the Athens State Orchestra, featuring 60 musicians on stage.

This year, with a renewed set list.

Three special guest artists join the band, adding even more atmosphere to this extraordinary live event: Fany Melfi and Afroditi Patoulidou on vocals, and Vahan Galstyan on duduk.

The Piraeus Vocal Ensemble LIBRO CORO and its children’s choir complete this unique musical experience, under the musical direction of Anthi Gourounti.

With nine albums, countless concerts and world tours, appearances at major international festivals, and a 24-year career on the global rock/metal scene, SEPTICFLESH have written their own history and secured a distinguished place in their genre, winning the hearts of thousands of listeners worldwide.

On February 8, 2025, SEPTICFLESH performed at the legendary Pepsi Center in Mexico City, joined by over 200 performers on stage—including a full symphony orchestra and a double choir—offering one of the most ambitious and grandiose live shows in the band’s history.

The symphonic/metal live of SEPTICFLESH was first presented in 2019, at the Metropolitan Theater of Mexico City, alongside the Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, with 140 musicians and a 40-member choir. It was an exceptional concert attended by more than 3,500 spectators—and it was completely sold out.

After last year’s triumph at the Herodeion, the time has finally come to relive this unique musical experience once again, in the most emblematic venue in the world—under the Acropolis and the starry Athenian sky. The concert will feature a renewed setlist, including songs not performed last year.

The experience will be elevated by the majestic symphonic sound of the Athens State Orchestra with 60 musicians on stage, conducted by the internationally acclaimed Dutch maestro Koen Schoots.

Aesthetics and Vision

SEPTICFLESH’s live shows are a unique aesthetic spectacle. Their vision is to present a complete acoustic and visual experience, emphasizing theatricality and consistently incorporating elements of Greek culture into their image—just as they do in their lyrics.

From Japan, Mexico, and South America, to every corner of Europe, SEPTICFLESH have toured the world for over two decades, building a brilliant international career.

Their fanbase spans across the globe.

Discographically, the band collaborates with one of the largest rock/metal labels in the world, Nuclear Blast Records (Germany). Their latest album, Modern Primitive, received high acclaim.

Their international recognition is undeniable—indicatively, in 2021, scores from four of their compositions were selected by the prestigious Berklee College of Music to be included in its library for study by its students.

As every year, the production and execution of Classic Rock 9 will be handled by the acclaimed company Robin 4 Arts.

Biography

SEPTICFLESH were formed in Greece in the early 1990s by Sotiris Vayenas (guitar/vocals), Spiros Antoniou (vocals/bass), and Christos Antoniou (guitar).

From their very first album, Mystic Places of Dawn, they experimented with cinematic elements, most notably in the nine-minute instrumental Mythos. Many of their lyrics draw inspiration from the mythology of ancient civilizations, particularly the Greek. This became more evident in their next album, ΕΣΟΠΤΡΟΝ (Esoptron), which had a more philosophical orientation.

The Greek cultural element has accompanied their music throughout their career, with songs such as Morpheus the Dreamlord, Narcissus, Tartarus, Prometheus, and Martyr, the latter referring to the pioneering mathematician and philosopher Hypatia, who was brutally murdered.

Musically, beyond their dominant metal character, the band has always flirted with symphonic music—incorporating it more and more over the years. Early on, they collaborated with Natalia Rasouli (daughter of the late lyricist Manolis Rasoulis), adding operatic female vocals to their compositions.

For the past seven releases, they have maintained a steady collaboration with the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague.

Christos Antoniou holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the London College of Music and a Master’s in Composition and Orchestration, having studied under Adam Gorb, Head of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Spiros Antoniou, besides composing, graduated with honors from the Athens School of Fine Arts, studying under Dimitris Mytaras, Zacharias Arvanitis, and Angelos Antonopoulos. He later also pursued photography under Professor Manolis Babousis.
